Cabin Leader (formerly "Camp Counselor")

We need 8-10 Cabin Leaders each week. Each Cabin Leader is given charge over a group of 4-12 campers and is the primary person responsible for their well-being throughout the week. Knowing how big an effort it is and how much energy it takes to be a good Cabin Leader, our ideal is to not have anyone serve more than 2 weeks in a row as a Cabin Leader. Furthermore, due to the leadership demands of the position, if possible, we generally accept and/or give preference to Cabin Leaders that have completed the 10th Grade (1 year past High School for Sr. High Camp Cabin Leaders). This is the best opportunity to be used by God to impact the campers for Jesus Christ. The Cabin Leader will therefore be primarily focused on the physical well-being and spiritual growth of the campers while facilitating and encouraging a fun camp experience. In general, we do not want other camp duties to draw our Cabin Leaders away from that, so we discourage involvement in other areas of camp. However, based on the interest of the applicant and the camp's need, we will consider involvement in other areas on a case-by-case basis.
The Cabin Leader will be responsible to: 

• ​Directly oversee the well-being of the campers in their cabin.
• Guide and encourage campers towards a closer relationship with God.
• Clearly present the Gospel plan of Salvation to the cabin.
• Direct and guide the behavior of the campers in their cabin, positively reinforcing good behavior and appropriately enforcing camp policies. 
• Connect with campers throughout the camp, seeking to find out where each one is in their relationship with God.
• Interact with campers in a loving, enthusiastic manner; being mindful that your example can impact lives for Jesus Christ.
• Be spiritually-minded and prepared through a daily prayer time and Bible time (even now in preparation for the summer).

* Cabin Leaders are not expected to provide professional "counseling" services or to provide psychological guidance to campers.

Glad Tidings may designate certain Cabin Leaders as "Head Cabin Leader". This may be based on need and/or the demonstrated competence and/or experience of a volunteer staff member. In general, the Head Cabin Leader will not directly supervise a cabin; rather they will assist and guide the other Cabin Leaders.
